Former Saints defensive back announces NFL retirement

Late last week, former New Orleans Saints cornerback Arthur Maulet announced his retirement from the NFL. Maulet, 33, played nine NFL seasons with six different teams, starting his career with the Saints in 2017. He posted this on his Facebook page regarding his decision.

''First off, I wanna thank everybody who believed in me, supported me, and stood beside me throughout this journey. Thank you to the NFL, every organization that gave me an opportunity, my teammates, coaches, and everybody who played a part in my story.

9 seasons. 100 games. Coming from where I come from, the odds were never in my favor. I wasn’t supposed to make it this far, but I never let somebody else’s doubt determine my destination.

I took the long road, fought battles nobody saw, and kept showing up when quitting would’ve been easier. Every setback, every sacrifice, every closed door built the man I am today.

I didn’t have the easiest journey, but I finished my marathon on my own two feet. And for that, I’ll forever be grateful.

The cleats are coming off, but the legacy lives on. This ain’t the end of my story, just the beginning of another chapter. 🖤🏈

Forever grateful. Forever blessed.''

Arthur Maulet was born in New Orleans and attended Bonnabel High School in Kenner, Louisiana. He is one of only four NFL players to attend Bonnabel and the longest-tenured player to do so. From Bonnabel, Maulet first played collegiately at Copiah-Lincoln Community College in Mississippi. He'd wind up with the Memphis Tigers in 2015, where he'd have 4 interceptions and 20 pass breakups along with 110 tackles in two seasons.

Maulet was not selected in the 2017 NFL Draft, instead signing with his hometown Saints as an undrafted rookie. He didn't make the initial 53-man roster out of training camp, but was retained on the practice squad. Maulet saw eight games of action as a rookie in 2017, including two playoff appearances. The majority of his action was on special teams.

In 2018, Maulet saw reps with the Saints in the regular season opener before being signed off the practice squad by the Indianapolis Colts. He'd get some defensive time for the Colts in six games before again being released. The Saints would re-sign Maulet to their practice squad to end the year, and he'd hit free agency that offseason.

Between 2019 and 2025, Maulet spent time with the New York Jets, Pittsburgh Steelers, Baltimore Ravens, and Detroit Lions. His most action was with the Jets and Steelers, where he'd get 23 games with 11 starts for the Jets and 8 starts in 33 games for Pittsburgh. In 95 regular season games and five more in the playoffs over nine seasons, Arthur Maulet had 5 interceptions, 18 pass breakups, 2 fumbles forced, 3 fumble recoveries, 5 sacks, and 17 tackles for loss. Maulet hit free agency after playing 2025 with the Lions, but did not sign with a team.
