The stage has been set for a massive SEC showdown between LSU and Alabama.
The conference announced the Nov. 7 contest at Tiger Stadium has been slated for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff. The game will air on ABC.
This marks the third consecutive week LSU has not played at night. The Tigers played in back-to-back 11 a.m. kickoffs at home against Mississippi State and on the road at Auburn. LSU opened the season with six straight night games.
Georgia-Ole Miss took the 6:30 p.m. kickoff slot for the SEC on Nov. 7.
The Alabama game opens a much-anticipated stretch where the No. 15 Tigers (6-2, 3-2 SEC) will face three top 25 programs in a row. LSU gets both No. 10 Alabama (6-2, 4-2) and No. 11 Texas (5-2, 2-2) at home before traveling to No. 16 Tennessee (6-2, 3-2).
All parties involved are trying to avoid a third SEC loss, which could still be enough to make the College Football Playoff, given the chaos unfolding in the conference, but could also significantly narrow a team’s odds of making it.
The Crimson Tide head into this week’s open date in need of a reset. They lost back-to-back games to Georgia and Tennessee before recovering with an 11-point win over Texas A&M this past weekend.
The Tigers have rebounded from an overtime loss at Kentucky with wins over Mississippi State and Auburn. LSU quarterback Sam Leavitt, the SEC’s offensive player of the week, just became the second passer in program history to log 30-plus completions in consecutive weeks, throwing for 387 yards and rushing for another 54 at Auburn.
Jackson Harris, the Hawaii transfer, has emerged as Leavitt’s No. 1 receiver, hauling in 15 receptions for 263 yards in his last two games.
Alabama is led by sophomore quarterback Keelon Russell, who is second only to Leavitt in the SEC in passing yards with 2,057. Leavitt has 2,163 on the year.
