Great Britain's Sophie Capewell loses out on the first round of the Women's Sprint finals to Mina Sato.

She will have to win the second race for a chance at the bronze medal.

Emma Finucane goes next to contend for the gold.

Olympic and defending world champions are competing at the 2026 Track World Championships, with 22 titles up for grabs and qualification spots for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics also at stake.

Day one was an eventful day for Ireland, with Lara Gillespie securing the country’s first medal of the World Championships. Team GB claimed silver in the women’s team sprint, with China taking gold, while the Netherlands won the men’s team sprint, finishing ahead of Australia and China.

Yesterday, GB took medals in three events including golds for Matthew Bostock in the Men's Scratch Race, as well as Erin Boothman, Anna Morris, Millie Couzens and Josie Knight in the Women's Team Pursuit.

Today, Edward Lowe and Joseph Truman kick things off for Great Britain in the Men's Time Trial. Anna Morris competes in the Women's Scratch Race, and GB take on China with Emma Finucane and Sophie Capewell competing in the Women's Sprint.
