5 questions facing the Jaguars as they enter the bye

The Jacksonville Jaguars are 4-2 going into the bye, and while they are considered strong playoff contenders, there are still questions that must be answered going forward.

There is a lot to be considered promising for this Jacksonville team. The defense is one of the strongest in the league, Trevor Lawrence has continued to perform at a high level, and the Jaguars have been lauded as one of the most complete teams right now, with all three units doing well.

Still, no team can be perfect, and there are questions Jacksonville needs to address.

Can the Jaguars clean up the self-inflicted mistakes?

Penalties have been a huge problem this season. There were 13 penalties in consecutive games against Cincinnati and Philadelphia. Still, they have shown they can overcome the penalties and still win; the unanswered question is whether they can actually stop committing them.

Can the offensive line hold up for a full season?

Anton Harrison’s injury makes this a bigger concern for the second half of the season, and Lawrence has already taken some punishment even with Harrison active. What does the line look like without its starting left tackle, and can Jacksonville protect Lawrence well enough against the better AFC defenses it will eventually have to beat?

Just how good can Parker Washington become?

We already know the breakout is real. The question now is where the ceiling is. Is he simply having another good year, or are we watching him establish himself as a genuine No. 1-caliber NFL receiver?

Can this dominant defense sustain it?

It's no secret that Jacksonville has one of the best defenses in the NFL. But can the defense remain strong through the rest of the season? The questions here are numerous: can they remain dominant against the run, continue to create takeaways, and win even without turnovers? There are plenty of reasons to be optimistic, but it will be something to watch after the bye.

How far can this team realistically go?

Going into 2026, the Jaguars were already seen as playoff contenders, but now, they're being touted as possibly headed for the Super Bowl. The rest of the season will either keep that hype going or destroy it. Jacksonville has only played six games, and while they have done well, there's still a lot of football left to be played. If the Jaguars continue to dominate, it will answer the question of whether or not the Super Bowl is actually within reach for the first time in franchise history.
