Lauren James fired Chelsea Women to a 6-2 win over Tottenham at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon. The 25-year-old scored twice as the Blues thrashed their fiercest rivals to temporarily move to the top of the Women’s Super League.
It has been a mixed week for the James family after Chelsea captain Reece underwent knee surgery that is expected to sideline him for around three months. The good news is that Lauren ended the week on a high with a stunning brace.
After a nervy start at Stamford Bridge, Lauren James gave Chelsea the lead after 25 minutes with an excellent solo goal. She pinched the ball from Spurs’ Toko Koga on the edge of the box, drove past two defenders and finished coolly from a tight angle.

James made Koga’s afternoon even more difficult in the second half, dribbling past the Spurs defender before slotting the ball into the far corner with her left foot. The England international was denied the chance to complete her hat-trick when head coach Sonia Bompastor substituted her with 18 minutes remaining, but it was still a performance to remember.
James has now scored four goals in the Women’s Super League this season, further cementing her status as one of Chelsea’s key players and one of the best in the world. The fact that both Lauren and Reece James are world-class players at the same club probably does not get enough recognition.

“Yeah, I think Tottenham always put on a good game against us,” Lauren told Sky Sports about her performance. “At the start, we struggled to find our feet; they equalised. We came out in the second half knowing we had to lift our game, and I guess all the goals showed that.”
