Movsar Evloev continues to receive criticism for his fight style ahead of his UFC 333 title fight.
This coming weekend, the premier promotion returns to Abu Dhabi for UFC 333, headlined by a featherweight title fight between Alexander Volkanovski and Movsar Evloev.
Ahead of his first title fight, Evloev’s fight style has been questioned by Demetrious Johnson, with the UFC legend questioning how the Russian is still in the promotion considering the fact that he hasn’t scored a single finish.
‘Mightymouse’ isn’t the only one who has questioned the 32-year-old’s standing in the promotion as former featherweight champion Jose Aldo has now given his opinion on the title challenger.
Explain your answer below
Aldo is widely regarded as the greatest 145lb fighter of all time after his legendary reign over the featherweight division during his prime. Despite that, ‘The Great’ Volkanovski beat him in 2019 to earn himself his first shot at the title.
And despite having retired from the sport several years ago, the 40-year-old has been keeping a keen eye on the division he once reigned over, and it is fair to say that he is not a fan over Evloev and his fight style.
“The UFC isn’t an organization that just has to follow a rankings system, it’s a business, it’s entertainment,” Aldo told MMAFighting. “It’s not a matter of, ‘I’m number one so I have to fight for the title’, no. Evloev is ranked No.1 in the division, if I’m not mistaken, and if I were the president, I’d never put him in there. He could beat everybody. I’d wait for him to lose for the first time and then cut him because he’s a guy that doesn’t sell, a guy who puts on boring fights, a guy who doesn’t draw attention, he just stays active,” Aldo continued.
Jose Aldo explains why he would cut Movsar Evloev if he were #UFC boss: "I’d wait for him to lose for the first time and then cut him because he’s a guy who doesn’t sell, a guy who puts on boring fights, a guy who doesn’t draw attention." (🎥 @guicruzzz) https://t.co/0DZINRJE90

The Russian contender is clearly aware of the precarious position he finds himself in because of his fight style, but Evloev has credited fans with preventing him from being cut, claiming that knowledgeable fans understand that you can be an exciting fighter without scoring finishes.
“Why would you give him that opportunity? I want to sell out my arena, I want my event to grow, there’s a lot involved. Jean Silva could lose three fights, but he’s a guy who comes forward, a guy who puts on a show… There are so many things you have to consider… It’s not just a matter of, ‘F—, I beat everyone’, you beat everyone by laying and praying, drawing no attention and nobody talks about anything,” Aldo added.
