One season after hitting 44 home runs with the Orioles, Anthony Santander started his Blue Jays career with a dreadful 2025 season before missing all of 2026. And now his offseason isn't looking any better for Toronto.
As the U.S. midterm elections saw a historic blue wave for the Democratic Party, Santander reacted by sharing Islamophobic videos to his Instagram Story. One post singled out Abdul El-Sayed who won Michigan's Senate election over Republican Mike Rogers. Another Instagram Story called Muslims "violent."
Santander grew up in Venezuela but follows numerous pro-Trump accounts. He has previously shared videos from Andrew Tate who is facing charges of sexual assault and human trafficking.
Santander eventually removed the Instagram posts. But the Blue Jays did issue a response to Santander's Instagram Story. The team said via blogto.com:
"Baseball is for everyone, and the Blue Jays have created an inclusive experience where all fans feel welcome at our ballpark. Individual comments do not represent our organization's values and beliefs."
After a career year in 2024 with the Orioles, Santander signed a five-year $92.5 million deal with the Blue Jays. He posted a career-worst output in 2025 before being sidelined for the entire 2026 season with left labral surgery.
