Dr Brian Sutterer has warned Jalen Hurts fans that the worst may be yet to come. The sports doctor believes the quarterback’s season could already be over.
The Eagles placed Hurts on injured reserve after multiple medical opinions, ruling him out for at least the next four games.
Tanner McKee will start in his place, with the Pittsburgh Steelers game the earliest possible return.
Sutterer’s reaction to the news was blunt. “No need to go on IR unless you’re going on blood thinners, so don’t be surprised when the next news is that his season is over,” he wrote on X.
That matters because players cannot compete while on blood thinners, which raise the risk of bleeding.

A second specialist has also urged caution. Jordan Schaefer, a hematologist at the University of Michigan, told USA Today Sports: “People often don’t think about it in athletes and people that don’t have a lot of the other risk factors.”
He added: “A lot of times, what we’re doing, is kind of following people closely over time. It’s not like a one-time visit and then you’re done.”
The team said the clot was first spotted before the Jaguars game, with doctors clearing Hurts to play at the time. An ultrasound earlier in the week showed movement, which ended his involvement against the Carolina Panthers.

McKee began the season third on the depth chart and was promoted to backup after Andy Dalton was released. The 2023 sixth-round pick now leads the offence.
Philadelphia signed running back Jaydon Blue to the active roster and elevated two defenders. Three-time Pro Bowl guard Landon Dickerson remains on injured reserve but returned to practice on a limited basis.
