Brentford have confirmed that they have reported a strange incident which took place during Saturday's Premier League clash with Liverpool to the police. The Bees suffered a 2-1 loss to the Reds at the Gtech Community Stadium, Victor Munoz and Alexander Isak making a difference in the second half following Keane Lewis-Potter's opener in the 44th minute.
However, it wasn't just the result which had people talking in west London on Saturday afternoon. Footage circulating on social media appears to show a male volleying a rugby ball off a balcony overlooking the stadium during the match, which subsequently landed in the stadium below.
A separate clip shows a man carrying a rugby ball away from the hallowed turf, with a caption reading: "Wrong sport mate," with a touch of sarcasm. Now, Brentford have explained that they have reported the incident to police, given the "dangerous and potentially harmful" nature.
A statement from the club released on Monday read: "B rentford Football Club is aware of an incident involving an item being kicked from a height towards the field of play during Saturday’s match against Liverpool. Such behaviour is dangerous and potentially very harmful.
"The matter has been referred to the police and the club is supporting the relevant authorities in their investigation to help identify those responsible and take appropriate action, which may result in criminal prosecution. The matchday safety of fans, staff, players and officials is of utmost importance, and the club will support all efforts to ensure action is taken."

It comes as Brentford have enjoyed a largely solid start to the season, currently perched sixth in the Premier League standings with two wins, four draws and just a single loss to show for their efforts. Up next for the Bees is an away trip to Hull City come Sunday, October 25 at 2pm.
Liverpool, meanwhile, sit just a place above Keith Andrews' men in fifth with three wins and as many draws from their opening seven matches of 2026/27.

However, as a result of Champions League football, Andoni Iraola's men have their work cut out should they hope to challenge domestically this term.
The Reds are up against Villarreal on Tuesday, October 20 at 8pm, before playing host to an in-form Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday - the Seagulls sitting pretty in third following a sublime start to the new season.
Liverpool are also missing a number of key talents through injury, as Iraola's first-team looks worryingly thin in certain areas.
Not only is Hugo Ekitike still sidelined from an Achilles tendon rupture sustained at the back end of last season, but Conor Bradley and Gio Leoni are also still on the road to recovery from respective knee injuries.
