Derek McInnes will be delighted as he will have Rangers attacker Minsu Kim staying put during the international break.
Minsu recently made his senior debut for South Korea following his bright start to life at Ibrox.
The expectation was that he would be picked for the squad in the upcoming international break, but that is not the case.
South Korean journalist Joel Kim has stated that it came as a surprise to many to see Minsu being omitted from the squad. In his view, it was not likely due to his performances, as the roster would already have been sent in by then.
This could be the manager potentially trying out different options, as it is going to be a fresh squad following the disappointing 2026 World Cup campaign.
Kim wrote on X: “To the shock of many, Kim Min-su was not called up to the KNT.
“I doubt last game had to do with it since the roster would have already been sent in by then.
“The only explanation I could think of is that Eom Ji-sung in the CH beat out Kim, and I could accept that.”
Managers hate the international breaks as it sees their players going out to represent their countries and they are sometimes not given the best pre and post-game care. This increases their risk of injuries and international head coaches can sometimes ignore the instructions with regard to game time that have been passed on by clubs.
McInnes will be happy that Minsu is going nowhere, and instead, will be spending time at Auchenhowie, acclimatising better to the manager’s system and also to life in Scotland. While the 20-year-old has started well this season, there are still some aspects of his game that need fine-tuning.
It will also mitigate his risk of injury and give him the rest that he needs to be a regular part of the team’s title challenge.
