Any time Penn State and Michigan get together for a football game is an attractive matchup by default. But this year's matchup between two Big Ten blue bloods sees the two programs colliding in search of an elusive win in conference play. Penn State (3-3, 0-3 Big Ten) is heading into this weekend's game looking to snap a three-game losing skid, while Michigan (3-2, 0-2 Big Ten) is coming off a bye week after losing two straight games in Big Ten play. First-year head coaches Matt Campbell (Penn State) and Kyle Whittingham (Michigan) are not used to this kind of disarray, which means this has a game with a sense of urgency.
Penn State's offense has struggled to get the running game going but saw some good developments with its passing game last week with Rocco Becht and Chase Sowell getting in sync with each other, while the absence of Koby Howard has been increasingly difficult to overcome. Michigan's offense has not been much better this season as it continues to struggle to score points. The Wolverines are continuing to keep the offense in the hands of Bryce Underwood as Whittingham and his staff hope to see Underwood improve on their watch.
This may not be a wild offensive shootout between these two teams, so it could be a bit of a slog all afternoon. Michigan's defense has made up for the shortcomings of the Wolverines offense this season, for the most part, but Penn State's defense is a bit banged up and has not been consistently sharp. That all feels like the Nittany Lions will be at a disadvantage.
Here is how to catch today's game between Penn State and Michigan.
The Penn State vs. Michigan game will air on CBS, marking Penn State's first time appearing on the network for a game this season. Brad Nesser will provide the play-by-play and Charles Davis will join him to break down the action. Jenny Dell will be the sideline reporter for the broadcast.
