Arsenal are planning to make a “January swoop” for Club Brugge striker Nicolo Tresoldi, according to reports.
The Sun claim that the German international is being targeted to strengthen the Gunners’ forward line, with Viktor Gyokeres, in particular, struggling to make an impact.
Gyokeres has failed to find the back of the net in 8 appearances so far this season, although he has only made 3 starts in all competitions.
In stark contrast, Tresoldi has scored 9 goals in 12 games for Club Brugge, including 4 in the Champions League.
It was reported back in March that the Gunners had held talks about signing the 22-year-old. Although nothing came of those conversations, it’s clear that they have kept tabs on his development.
The Premier League champions did snap up another player from Club Brugge last summer, Christos Tzolis, and it is believed that sporting director Andrea Berta has a good relationship with the Belgian club, which may help them in negotiations for Tresoldi. The Sun report that the forward’s asking price is currently €50m or £42m.
Tresoldi is reportedly an AC Milan fan, and the Serie A giants are expected to make their own move for the German, who was born in Italy.
The Rossoneri’s interest may complicate the Gunners’ plan to sign the striker, but there are still two and a half months to go before the transfer window reopens.
Plenty can happen in the intervening period. Gyokeres and Kai Havertz may start scoring on a regular basis once again, reducing the need to bring in a player like Tresoldi.
Equally, the Club Brugge star could lose form or pick up an injury, which would make a January deal less likely. For now, though, it appears he is a top target for Mikel Arteta’s side.
