The striker took another step on the road back from injury on Saturday when he travelled with the squad to Solihull Moors.
Armstrong took part in the pre-match warm-up as he edges closer to his comeback after a pre-season ankle injury.
The 30-year-old is back in excellent condition, Elliot says, as the frontman continues to build up his fitness for a return to the first-team scene.
The Blues head coach says Armstrong’s qualities are infectious – and will only benefit the squad.
“It was brilliant to see Luke on the pitch,” Elliot said.
“He trained with the team on Friday for pretty much the whole session.

“You've got to remember, Luke hasn't played any real football since Boreham Wood [in the play-offs] at the end of last season. He's missed the whole pre-season and I feel for him.
“But he's such a good professional. He keeps himself in ridiculous condition. He works so hard, and he's brilliant to have around the group.
“Genuinely, he's a bit of a leader, a bit of a character in his own way. He sets standards because of his running, his pace and his power and everything he gives.
“So it’s great to have him around. And hopefully, the more he trains, the closer we get him back. Hopefully we'll see him back sooner rather than later.”

Armstrong’s return to the pitch on Saturday proved popular with supporters, as travelling fans sang his name as he completed some fitness drills at Solihull.
Wednesday's home clash with his former club Harrogate Town may prove too soon for Armstrong’s return to action.
United then go to Altrincham in the league next weekend before the FA Cup clash with another of Armstrong’s old employers in Salford City a week later.
His return to action will be timely given fellow frontman Georgie Kelly’s continued absence through injury.
