Patrick Mahomes racked up his 100th career win in the Chiefs' victory over the Rams on Sunday, and the Kansas City quarterback has no intention of slowing down as he chases the next career milestone
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes said he is "gonna keep winning" after tying Tom Brady for yet another record following Sunday's victory over the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mahomes, 31, completed 23 of 30 passes for 272 yards and finished with an 89.9 passer rating as his side secured a 22-6 success at Arrowhead Stadium, extending their unbeaten start to the season to go 5-0.
With the result, Mahomes, who has been reunited with a familiar deep threat this month, achieved his 100th career regular-season win, and in doing so, tied Brady for the fewest starts in NFL history (131) to reach that milestone.
Commenting on his latest achievement after the game, Mahomes expressed his awe of Brady as the "GOAT," calling it an honor to be mentioned alongside him, though he made sure to offer a playful warning to the NFL legend as he chases down further records.
"It's awesome 'cause he's the GOAT, man," Mahomes told CBS sideline reporter Melanie Collins when asked what it means to be in the same conversation as someone like Brady.
"He's the one that's shown us how to do it, winning the Super Bowls and winning every single week, so it's always an honor to be mentioned in his name, but it seems like every time I win a game, I'm tying him, so I'm gonna have to keep winning."
Mahomes, however, wasn't done there, as he also offered another lighthearted joke on the New England Patriots icon when speaking to reporters in his post-match press conference, noting how comparisons have persisted since win No. 97 last month.
"I'm like, 'When did Tom lose another game?'" Mahomes said with a laugh, eliciting the same reaction from several in the room. "I feel like every game I win, I tie him."
"In all seriousness, it's always an honor to be in any conversation, as far as winning [games], with him," Mahomes added. "That's the GOAT. He knows how to win football [games] better than anyone, really. If you can be mentioned in any category with him, it's special."
Mahomes also understands he has many more games ahead of him if he is to match or surpass Brady's career win total (251) and Super Bowl rings (seven).
"All I can focus on is today -- and winning today," Mahomes said. "I mean, he's got like [almost] 15 more years. I'm only 31. He played until [he was] 45, so that's a long way away."
With regards to his own performance, Mahomes, who recorded no touchdowns and forced one interception in the game, was highly critical of himself, taking full accountability for the offense's sluggish rhythm despite the team's 22-6 victory.
"As I've gone throughout my career, I think I've gotten better and better at winning," Mahomes said. "It's not always pretty. It's not always how I want it to be -- I want to throw three touchdowns, four touchdowns, and I want to put up big stats.
"But whenever your defense is playing like they [were] today, you can't force it."
