The NFL trade deadline is coming up soon on Nov. 10, but which New Orleans Saints players could be on the move? The Athletic’s Jonathan Jones reported that running backs Kendre Miller and Alvin Kamara could be at the center of trade talks as 2027 free agents, but he also noted that “Veteran safety Justin Reid is also a potential trade target, with a low salary this year and no guaranteed money in 2027.”
Reid signed a three-year deal with his hometown team back in 2025, but he has struggled to replace Tyrann Mathieu as the ballhawk over the top the Saints envisioned when they brought him in. He’s produced just one turnover in 22 games with New Orleans. Because the Saints restructured his contract this offseason, trading him would only save about $722,000 for the rest of the 2026 season. His 2027 salary cap hit would fall from $13.14 million to $9.37 million. A new team could choose to keep him on his $9.25 million salary, renegotiate the deal, or let him go without financial penalty.
So trading Reid wouldn’t be a salary cap-minded move. It would make the defense younger on the back end and open up more snaps for a young player in a contract year like Jordan Howden. And it might get the Saints another draft pick in the fifth or sixth round, where they currently run a little light. It’s something to keep an eye on.
