Deion Sanders' Colorado Buffaloes will face first-year Oklahoma State coach Eric Morris Saturday evening in Boone Pickens Stadium.
Morris leads the Cowboys 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play after a 35-32 loss at Houston. Oklahoma State has won four of its past five games, including a victory over then-No. 6 Oregon that ended the program's double-digit losing streak.
Oklahoma State hired Morris on Nov. 25, 2025, after three seasons at North Texas. His teams there produced three of the school's top four seasons in total offense per game. North Texas led the FBS in scoring and total offense in 2025.
Morris previously coached Incarnate Word from 2018-21 and won two Southland Conference titles. He also served as offensive coordinator at Texas Tech and Washington State.
A former Texas Tech receiver, Morris played under Mike Leach before entering coaching. He later recruited and coached Patrick Mahomes while working on Kliff Kingsbury's staff in Lubbock.
Mestemaker followed Morris from North Texas and averages 323.3 passing yards per game, second nationally. He has surpassed 300 yards in five consecutive games, helping Oklahoma State rank fourth in passing offense and fifth in total offense.
Their connection began when Mestemaker joined North Texas as a walk-on. He led the FBS in passing yards and yards per game in 2025.
Oklahoma State lists 91 newcomers on its 115-player roster, including 66 transfers. The program added more than 45,000 snaps of Division I experience during the offseason after going winless in conference play in 2024 and 2025.
Saturday will be Morris' first game against Colorado as a head coach and Oklahoma State's 105th homecoming game. The Cowboys have announced a sellout for Colorado's first visit to Stillwater since 2009.
