Fabian Hurzeler has emerged as one of the leading names linked with Manchester United as uncertainty continues to surround Michael Carrick’s future at Old Trafford.
United’s season has descended into disappointment after a promising period under Carrick, who secured Champions League qualification following his appointment earlier this year.
The Englishman has overseen just two victories in nine matches across all competitions this season, with four defeats leaving supporters increasingly frustrated.
Tuesday’s 2-0 defeat against Atletico Madrid extended United’s winless run to five games, intensifying scrutiny of the manager and the club’s hierarchy.
Consequently, attention has turned towards potential successors, with Hurzeler reportedly emerging as a leading candidate to replace Carrick should United decide to make a change.
The Brighton manager has established himself as one of English football’s most exciting young coaches, earning admiration for his progressive approach and tactical intelligence.
However, with speculation surrounding his future growing, the German has now addressed his situation at Brighton.
Speaking during his pre-match press conference ahead of Brighton’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace, Hurzeler discussed his happiness at the club.
The 33-year-old explained that he is thoroughly enjoying his time at Brighton, praising the club’s ownership, chief executive and working environment.
He also acknowledged how quickly circumstances can change in football, while emphasising his appreciation for the environment Brighton have created.
Speaking about his approach to management, Hurzeler said: “As a coach, you set the tone. As a coach, you should be the role model for which energy you transfer to the group.”
Hurzeler did not directly address Manchester United’s reported interest, and his comments should not be interpreted as a definitive decision regarding his future.
Born in Houston in 1993, Hurzeler previously represented Bayern Munich’s youth system before moving into coaching at an unusually young age.
He subsequently transformed St Pauli, guiding the German club to the 2. Bundesliga title and promotion in 2024.
Brighton appointed him that summer, making him the youngest permanent manager in Premier League history.
He signed a new contract in May 2026, committing his future to Brighton until 2029, potentially complicating any approach from United.
For now, Carrick remains Manchester United manager, with no change officially announced.
