Tennessee Titans vs. Cincinnati Bengals: 5 storylines to watch in Week 8

The Tennessee Titans are preparing to take on the Cincinnati Bengals in a Week 8 battle at Paycor Stadium and will look to put last week's disappointment behind them.

The Titans rode a strong rushing attack led by Tony Pollard to tie the Cleveland Browns in the final seconds. Unfortunately, the defense that led to victory the week before couldn't contain the Browns’ offense, which led to the defeat.

The Bengals are a complete team, and this one will be tough, and here are five storylines in the Titans-Bengals Week 8 matchup.

Cam’s footwork is polarizing the fan base

While Ward didn’t have a great outing against the Browns, he made plays down the stretch and again had Tennessee in position to win. In this uneven outing, he threw an interception and another brutal overthrow, but he wasn’t the reason Tennessee lost. That didn’t stop the outside analysts, media personalities, and frustrated fans from calling out his footwork lapses

During his media availability, Ward was asked multiple times about his footwork and said that, as many see, he is still a work in progress and constantly working to improve. He admitted that they do slip at times in a game, but he is trying to overcome those issues.

Unfortunately, some people didn’t like his answer and took it to social media, making his comments a bigger deal than they need to be.

Why is there so much Simmons trade talk?

A quick look at social media shows outlets and fans discussing trade packages for Jeffery Simmons, even though no one in the organization has hinted at such a move. In fact, they’d be crazy to move off their best player.

With the Titans in a rebuild, it would make sense if the return was franchise-altering, like the Ricky Williams or Herchell Walker trades, but it's unlikely any team would pony up that kind of capital.

The Titans could be active at the deadline, but Simmons is unlikely to be part of any deal.

Who could be traded?

Tennessee could be active around the trade deadline, and could move on from a few veterans, specifically Tony Pollard and Calvin Ridley.

Pollard is coming off his best game of the season, and at 29 and in the final year of his contract, he doesn’t seem to be part of the long-term plan in this rebuild. Similar things can be said about Ridley, who took a pay cut to stay, and is likely in the final season with the organization.

A few other players could draw interest, but Pollard and Ridley seem most likely.

Can Tennessee ever play a complete game?

The Titans really haven’t put together four full quarters of football in 2026, and to make it worse, they haven’t truly put all three phases together.

Last week against the Browns, the defense faltered and cost them the win. If the Titans could ever put it all together, maybe they could pull out a win.

The Bengals curse?

Cam Ward fans may not want to watch this weekend because, for some reason, the Bengals matchup has been a disaster for the quarterbacks. Worst of all, the past two starters entering the matchup never started again for the organization.

Don’t believe me? Look back at the Titans' history. Will Levis imploded against the Bengals and never again took the field in a regular-season game. Before him, Ryan Tannehill met the same fate in 2021.

If Ward ever proves he is the Titans' long-term quarterback, breaking the Bengals curse would be a great first step.
