Lucas Bergvall was actively looking to leave Tottenham Hotspur during the last summer transfer window as he grew concerned about a lack of minutes. This happened in the wake of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes joining from Newcastle United and West Ham, respectively.
However, Spurs rejected several offers for the central midfielder from Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest. They were determined to retain the 20-year-old’s services and secured his future last month by handing him a contract extension. Beyond the salary increase, the North London club and head coach Roberto De Zerbi also provided Lucas Bergvall with guarantees over regular game time and a clear pathway towards a more prominent role in the future.
However, the Sweden international hasn’t really got a regular look in. This season, the midfielder played 324 minutes from six Premier League matches, and featured twice in the Carabao Cup. With Spurs eliminated from the Carabao Cup and having only the Premier League to focus on until January, when the FA Cup commences, the youngster faces the prospect of reduced opportunities.
Recent reports suggest Bergvall has been offered to Juventus via intermediaries. The Turin giants are in the market for a new midfielder and are showing interest in the Spurs starlet.
Now, a fresh report from Tutto Juve claims that Juventus boss Luciano Spalletti is looking for players who can keep possession, recycle it and move it forward, ‘without excessively slowing down the play’. He believes the Tottenham man can be a solution. The Serie A club believes a loan move can benefit all parties and has to convince Spurs.
From Tottenham’s perspective, there is absolutely no intention to allow Bergvall to leave, especially after offering a new contract. So, the North London outfit are proving to be an obstacle for Juventus. Despite Spurs’ firm stance, the Old Lady will continue to monitor Bergvall with the hope of finding an opening to sign him on loan during the winter transfer window.

Juventus aren’t alone in the pursuit of the Scandinavian talent. Barcelona have recently registered their interest in the 20-year-old. The Spanish champions have identified the Tottenham man as a potential successor to Gavi.
While interest from Juventus and Barcelona remains speculative at this preliminary stage, the mere suggestion of the two European giants’ links underscores the immense ceiling of Bergvall. No wonder De Zerbi and Spurs have no intention of letting him leave.
