The Milwaukee Brewers captured their first World Series in 57 years last night. Legendary play-by-play announcer Bob Uecker was the voice of the Brewers for 54 seasons, and while his final campaign was 2024 and he died in 2025, his imprint was all over Milwaukee's championship run.
Designated hitter Christian Yelich dedicated the win to Uecker in his postgame comments.
"He's smiling," Yelich said. "I really wish he could've been here to see this. It would have meant everything to him. But like we said a bunch, he's been with us a lot. We keep him close to our hearts. This one's still for Bob, this one's still for Ueck. I love you, man. We did it."
The Brewers cruised through the playoffs in dominant fashion. They lost only once to the San Diego Padres in the American League Division Series, swept the back-to-back champion Los Angeles Dodgers in the ALCS, and it took extra innings for the Tampa Bay Rays to get their lone World Series win.
Uecker would be proud indeed.
