In a historic first for Rangers, the overall market value of the squad has skyrocketed to levels never seen before at Ibrox.
Specifically, Rangers now boast more players valued in the tens of millions than at almost any previous point in the club’s history.
The Rangers squad market value has risen dramatically, reflecting the club’s increasingly ambitious recruitment and trading model.
Youssef Chermiti, Emmanuel Fernandez, Nico Raskin, Kevin Kelsey and Minsu Kim all command valuations in the region of £10M or more.
Furthermore, Owethu Makhanya continues to increase his value, while several others approach similar territory.
Ryan Naderi could also join that category if his development continues.
Consequently, Rangers now possess approaching ten players who could potentially command substantial transfer fees.
This represents a remarkable change from previous years when Rangers generally relied on one or two particularly valuable assets.
Chermiti offers perhaps the clearest example of this emerging strategy.
Rangers initially paid £8 million for the striker, with appearances and additional clauses potentially increasing that figure to £11 million.
However, the club subsequently rejected a confirmed £22 million offer from Besiktas, considering the Portuguese forward too important to lose. And crucially, the bid wasn’t high enough.
That decision illustrates the enormous potential Rangers now possess.
Rather than simply accepting significant offers, the club can potentially demand considerably more for its leading players.
Indeed, the Rangers squad market value increasingly reflects a collection of substantial individual assets.
The financial strength extends throughout the team.
In goal, Rangers possess a goalkeeper who cost approximately £6M.
Meanwhile, the defence includes at least two players who could command £10M or more, alongside others with considerable potential.
Midfield offers Nico Raskin and the increasingly valuable Dan Neil, while the attack features Chermiti, Kelsey and Minsu Kim.
Of course, spending £8.5Mn on Kim does not automatically guarantee that Rangers could recover that amount.
Nevertheless, young players who consistently deliver generally increase their market value.
Importantly, Rangers have started investing considerably more money in footballers with genuine resale potential.
Naturally, valuations remain subjective. Ultimately, any player is worth whatever another club actually agrees to pay.
Nevertheless, Rangers now possess a considerably stronger collection of marketable assets than in previous seasons.
The Rangers squad market value reflects an ambitious strategy that prioritises both immediate quality and future financial returns.
This does not necessarily mean Rangers intend to sell their leading performers anytime soon.
One only has to check the respected data on transfermarkt to see the difference now. Celtic’s squad value is just over £130M, but Rangers’ closes into £160M.
The club now has greater financial flexibility through the substantial potential value of its playing staff.
The biggest question concerns which player might eventually attract an offer exceeding £25 million.
Scottish football has already witnessed transfers beyond that figure. However, Rangers have yet to achieve such a sale themselves.
Given the talent currently emerging at Ibrox, we would not be surprised if that milestone finally arrives.
Time will tell.
