With Chelsea playing at 12:30 on Saturday away at Goodison Park against Everton, they not only kick off the Premier League weekend, but also put the pressure back on other teams around them to get a result whilst Chelsea have done the business that they needed to do on Merseyside.
Xabi Alonso's side knows that a win at Saturday lunchtime will mean that the Blues will rise a couple of places up to fourth in the Premier League table, and whilst initially it might not seem like that big of a deal going up two places, ahead of what could be a tricky run for Alonso's side, momentum will be key for them to carry it forward.
In Chelsea's next three games, after Everton on Saturday, they have Tottenham and Manchester United at home, either side of Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, and all three sides haven't had the best start to the season, they will always be up for playing Chelsea no matter their current performances.
If Chelsea can end their Everton hoodoo, then they could be building some momentum into what could be seen as a favourable run, with Spurs, Man United, Sunderland, Leeds, and Nottingham Forest as their next five, with Leeds currently in the top half of the table, the rest of the sides sit no higher than 13th in the current league table.
Coming back after the international break after a three-game winless run, the Blues got back to winning ways with a 5-1 beating of Bournemouth, and if they were to pick up three points at the Hill Dickinson Stadium, it would be only the second time in nine matches that they would have won away from Stamford Bridge against the Toffees.
The last time Chelsea won away at either the Hill Dickinson or Goodison Park was in the first game of the 2022/23 season, when a Jorginho penalty secured the win for then-Thomas Tuchel's side, ending a six-year wait for another away win against Everton.
Looking at those currently around Chelsea in the Premier League table and who they're playing this weekend, at the top of the table, Manchester City and Arsenal are playing Ipswich and Nottingham Forest, respectively. In contrast, high flyers Brighton and Brentford play Crystal Palace and Liverpool, then in fifth and sixth come Everton and Chelsea. If Alonso's men are able to beat Everton, then they would be the first to do so in the league so far this season.
Of course, the dream scenario for Chelsea would be all those sides above them to drop points, and although there is a possibility that it could happen, it would be highly unlikely, but some could think that if Chelsea win, then they can kick their feet up for the rest of the weekend and see how everyone else around them does.
