It was heartbreak for Seamus Power as he was beaten on the third play-off hole by Austin Smotherman at the Butterfield Bermuda Championship.
Four weeks on from his maiden win on the PGA Tour, Smotherman held his nerve to outlast Power - and the conditions - on an extremely windy weekend in the Caribbean.
Play in Southampton, Bermuda, was disrupted by heavy rain and high winds, with gusts of over 60 km/h wreaking havoc as organisers were forced to cut the event to 54 holes.
That meant only Power and Smotherman took to the course on Monday. With both players tied at the top of the leaderboard on -16, a sudden death play-off was required to crown a winner.
Playing the 16th hole, Power and Smotherman tied the Par-3 on two occasions, before the hole location was moved from the back shelf to the front portion of the green.
Smotherman stitched an 8-iron to 20 feet, while Power pulled his tee-shot left into some thick rough on the short side.
The Waterford man was able to chunk one out, while Smotherman's Birdie putt for the win ran five-feet past.
Power drained his Bogey putt, while Smotherman held his nerve to take home the title and the winner's cheque of $1,080,000 (€964,000), while Power - who won the title in 2022 - has to make do with a healthy $654,000 (€584,100).
