Chelsea would “consider” making a move for Real Madrid fullback Trent Alexander-Arnold if he becomes available, according to reports.
TEAMtalk claim that the ex-Liverpool defender is not happy with his current game time at the Bernabeu.
Real boss Jose Mourinho has only started Alexander-Arnold 3 times so far this season, and if he continues to be overlooked, there is a chance that he would seek to leave Spain.
The Blues are by no means the only club keeping an eye on the 28-year-old’s situation. Arsenal, Manchester City, Bayern Munich and his former team Liverpool are also in the mix.
It should be pointed out that manager Xabi Alonso has worked with Alexander-Arnold before. Both moved to Madrid at the same time last year, before the former was sacked in January.
Furthermore, Alonso is facing potential selection issues on the right flank. Malo Gusto has fallen out of favour, and the Frenchman could well be on the move in the New Year.
Reece James cannot be relied upon either due to injuries. The captain has been ruled out for up to three months after knee surgery.
Even without James and Gusto, some fans would still argue that another right-back/wingback is not needed, with Pedro Neto and Marco Palestra also available to Alonso.
The priority heading into the January transfer window will be to strengthen the middle of the park, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott deemed to be the top target.
A centre-half may also be pursued ahead of another fullback/wingback. While Maxence Lacroix was snapped up from Crystal Palace in the summer, the Blues have not been particularly solid at the back.
The clean sheet against Everton was a step in the right direction, but Alonso’s side have conceded 13 times in 7 games, so it is an area that could do with some improvement.
