Josh Allen has long been considered among the best quarterbacks in the NFL. With an MVP to his name and multiple legendary seasons on his resume, he has been solely responsible for the Buffalo Bills becoming a perennial threat once again.
However, he has had a few detractors in the media. Among them, none has been as loud about their complaints against him as Nick Wright. But when the longtime host of “First Things First” paid Allen a compliment in Week 6, the entire NFL fan base was left in shock.
Wright hasn’t been part of the hype around Allen at all. While he’s consistently regarded him as the second-best quarterback in the NFL, only to Patrick Mahomes, and believes he will win a Super Bowl someday, he has also been among his loudest critics.
From calling him a “rollercoaster” for his turnover problems to taking indirect shots at him, his preference for Mahomes has led some to call him a hater of the Bills’ superstar.
Which is what made his comment praising Allen all the more surprising. In a game where he tallied 255 yards and 2 touchdowns, it was a toss to Keon Coleman in the end zone that left Wright stunned.
“What an absolutely sick play by Josh Allen there,” he exclaimed, after the former MVP tossed the ball in the air in an outward push from his chest rather than a full-arm extension spiraling throw. “One of the best plays of the season so far.”
One fan immediately responded, “Wow, Nick Wright not hating today.”
The shock was so severe for some people that they joked he was being forced to pay compliments to the player at number four on PFN’s Quarterback Impact Metric.
“Nick – you okay? You get hacked? Blink twice if you’re alright,” one fan joked.
But he wasn’t the only one to go that route, as another fan poked, “Blink twice if you are being held against your will and being told to say compliments about Josh Allen.”
Given his surname, one fan joked, “Nick Wrong is finally Wright,” while another fan did a double-take, wondering, “You said something positive about Josh?”
A fan also asked, “Did that hurt to type out?”
One fan was sure that the incident had to be a case of the Fox Sports host being hacked, claiming, “@getnickwright wow, who is this, he’s been hacked. Quick, send help.”
It remains to be seen how sincere Wright’s compliment to Allen was.
With their television show running throughout the week on FS1, fans should get a deeper insight into what he thought about Allen’s Week 6 outing against the Las Vegas Raiders as his team improved to 5-1.
