New Zealand produced a commanding performance to defeat India by 87 runs in the fourth T20I at Eden Park, Auckland, ending the visitors’ unbeaten run in the ongoing five-match series. After winning the toss and opting to bowl first, India struggled to contain the New Zealand batters, who unleashed an extraordinary display of power-hitting to post a massive 259/7 in 20 overs.
Glenn Phillips was the standout performer for the hosts, smashing a magnificent century, while Michael Bracewell provided excellent support with a blistering half-century. In response, India’s batting lineup failed to rise to the occasion and managed only 172/9 in their allotted 20 overs. Despite the defeat, India continue to lead the series 3-1.
New Zealand made full use of the batting-friendly conditions at Eden Park after being asked to bat first. The hosts got off to an aggressive start before Phillips took complete control of the innings with a sensational display of attacking cricket. Phillips smashed 107 runs off just 49 deliveries, striking six fours and 10 sixes. He brought up his third T20I century in only 46 balls, putting the Indian bowling attack under tremendous pressure.
Bracewell was equally destructive at the other end, scoring 65 off just 25 deliveries. His aggressive contribution helped New Zealand maintain an extraordinary scoring rate throughout the innings. The pair also stitched together a crucial 100-run partnership, allowing the Black Caps to push towards an imposing total. Phillips eventually departed in the final over, but New Zealand had already established complete control of the contest.
Mayank Yadav was India’s most successful bowler, finishing with figures of 3/48. However, the remaining bowlers found it difficult to restrict the scoring as New Zealand finished at 259/7, registering their highest-ever T20I total.
Chasing 260 for victory, India needed an exceptional batting performance to remain competitive in the contest. However, the visitors struggled to build partnerships as New Zealand’s bowlers consistently picked up wickets. Jacob Duffy led the bowling attack with an impressive spell, claiming four wickets for 23 runs. His ability to strike at regular intervals prevented India from developing any meaningful momentum during the chase.
Mitchell Santner also played an important role, picking up two wickets while conceding just 24 runs. New Zealand bowlers maintained control throughout the innings and ensured that the required run rate continued to climb. Tilak Varma was India’s leading run-scorer with 35, while Naman Dhir contributed 28. However, neither batter managed to convert their start into a substantial innings.
Indian batting lineup continued to lose wickets under pressure and eventually finished at 172/9 after completing their 20 overs. New Zealand secured a comprehensive 87-run victory, handing India their first defeat of the five-match T20I series. Despite the heavy defeat, India remain ahead 3-1 in the series, having already secured the first three matches. The visitors will now look to bounce back in the fifth and final T20I, while New Zealand will take confidence from their dominant performance in Auckland.

Tilak verma once again flop , in 260 chase he score 35 in 35 balls on flat track
He flop in 6 innings in last 7 match
Without fluke innings (once in 10 match) he is just another fraud in team
Rinku singh is much better consistent finisher than this fraud#NZvsIND

What's Axar Patel doing in NZ? Is he good enough spinner to bowl in small grounds and pacer friendly pitches or good enough batter to bat in seaming and swinging conditions? @BCCI
On hindsight We could have played same 11. But this defeat was very much due. Weldon Kiwi#NZvsIND— निर्बाध The Uninterrupted (@kanisshk) October 30, 2026
