Chelsea goalkeeper Emi Martinez has been taken to hospital but is conscious after a nasty collision with Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite.
Martinez came off his line to contest a free-kick delivery into his box, but collided heavily with Branthwaite as the two challenged for the ball.
Both players stayed down initially inside the area before Branthwaite was able to slowly make his way to his feet.
Martinez, though, remained on the ground as Chelsea physios and medical staff attended to the Blues keeper.
The Argentine goalkeeper, who received oxygen on the pitch, was eventually carried off the pitch on a stretcher around 10 minutes after the collision before being taken straight to a local hospital.
Martinez was replaced in the 75rd minute by Belgian goalkeeper Mike Penders, who came on to make his Premier League debut as Chelsea secured a 2-0 win at Everton.
Asked for an update on Martinez’s condition after that hard-fought victory, Alonso told TNT Sports: ‘As far as I know, he left the stadium conscious and right now he’s in the hospital doing precautionary tests.
‘So let’s see, but this is what I know so far.’
