Wrexham fans suggest names for new Kop stand tribute

The stand is currently a work in progress and, once complete, it will take the Racecourse ground's capacity to over 18,000.

Reds supporters have once again been calling for the new Kop to pay tribute to a fan who was once dubbed 'The King of the Kop'.

It is now nine years since Wrexham superfan Ian ‘Jacko’ Roberts died aged 55 years old, following a long battle with cancer.

Jacko, from Acrefair, was the main singer in the Kop for many years and later the Glyndwr University Stand.

For the past three years, since work on the new Kop was first announced, Wrexham fans have been calling for the club to pay tribute to Jacko via the new Kop.

Some of you have been getting in touch to suggest who else the Kop could honour once its complete.

Many of you believe that it should pay tribute to Wrexham AFC legend Joey Jones, who sadly died last year.

Tim Edwards told us: "Rob Mac asked me directly to gauge the thoughts of Jacko's closest friends. All agreed they just want the King Of The Kop flag that is hung up at the back of the Tech End every home game to have some sort of permanency in the new kop.

"This, and maybe him being part of a mural within the main floor of the kop concourse, would be a lasting and fitting tribute to a man who led atmospheres for Wrexham home and away, week after week for decades."

Andrew Dempsey said: "There should be a bronze statue of Jacko at the front facing the crowd just as he used to motivate the Kop into full voice. But the Kop should be called the Joey Jones Kop."

Carl Williams agreed, adding: "It should be named after Joey. Jacko should be honoured in some way, maybe a mural of him."

Martin Sonje added: "Personally I think the stand should be named after Rob (Mac) and Ryan (Reynolds) in someway, we wouldn't be in this position without them!."

Mark Williams said: "I think the stand should be named the John neil stand as he was the one who started it off in the 1960's till mid 1970's."

Who do you think the new Kop should be named after? Let us know in the comments.
