Jannik Sinner will have a new coach on board next season in the form of Magnus Norman.

Working alongside Simone Vagnozzi, Norman is expected to take over from the retiring Darren Cahill, according to The Times. The Swede, who has previously coached Thomas Johansson and Robin Soderling, and is currently coaching Stan Wawrinka, will join Sinner from 2027.

The intriguing appointment has certainly caught the attention of tennis fans, many of whom have welcomed the decision from the current ATP number one. But the Italian is expected to lose that ranking shortly to Alexander Zverev, with Sinner having ended his season early because of a knee injury.

Tennis fans welcome ‘wise’ coaching appointment from Jannik Sinner

Sharing an immediate reaction to the major appointment, one delighted tennis fan commented on X: “A very wise choice. He will fit in perfectly.”

And a second agreed: “As much as I’m going to miss Cahill, I kind of think he could be a great fit for Sinner and a good replacement for Cahill, especially considering his track record with Stan.”

As did a third fan: “Great personality fit. Jannik certainly doesn’t need a lot of technical tweaking, but Norman certainly had a great forehand and coached players with terrific forehands. Will be exciting to see how this pairing evolves. Just hoping the knee doesn’t become a lingering issue.”

And others wrote: “I would have liked to see him with [Carlos] Moya, but this is a great choice,” “Yikes! Sinner will soon have Stan’s BH,” and “This could work out really well!”

Meanwhile, another excited tennis fan said: “Magnus Norman part of the coaching lineup = new dimension of chip returns on the FH side. Sinner keeps hiring some of the best coaches in tennis.”

Prior to his successful coaching career, Norman enjoyed a superb playing career, which comprised 12 ATP titles and a rise to world number two. He reached one Grand Slam final at the French Open in 2000, but lost out to Gustavo Kuerten.

However, it is his coaching career that will be of most interest to Sinner and his team right now. And that certainly speaks for itself, with the Swede enjoying particular success with the outgoing Wawrinka. He reached number three in the ATP rankings under his guidance, but more significantly won three Grand Slam titles. Of course, Sinner himself is yet to confirm the appointment.
