Ashley Cole is one of the contenders to become the next Bromley manager, GIVEMESPORT understands, with the former Arsenal and Chelsea star, one of the greatest defenders in Premier League history, under consideration for the position with the League One outfit.

The Londoners are playing League One football for the first time in the club's history following their promotion from League Two last season. They had only spent two seasons in League Two, having been promoted out of non-league football for the first time ever in the 2023/24 season.

Andy Woodman was the man who had masterminded their move through the leagues, but he was sacked last week, with the side sitting in the relegation zone in League One.

Bromley have won just two matches this season and are 22nd in the table, two points adrift of safety after 12 games played and the club's hierarchy are now on the lookout for a new manager, with interviews already taking place.

GMS understands that Cole has been interviewed for the job, and is a contender for the role, although Blackburn Rovers assistant manager Mike Dodds is also under consideration.

Cole has most recently been in charge in Italy, taking over at Serie B side Cesena towards the end of last season, overseeing the final eight games of the campaign as they finished in mid-table.

He has previously spoken out about the coaching set-up in England, admitting his move to Italy came about after getting "discouraged" by opportunities in England.

He told BBC Sport: "I was getting kind of discouraged by a lack of opportunities, from some clubs in England I spoke to. They like to throw the 'you don't have experience' line. And I'm like, 'I get what you're saying, I agree - but how am I going to get experience?'

"That's the battle you have to fight as a number two for six or seven years - you have to take a leap of faith, but a club also has to take a leap of faith.

"I don't think there are too many black English coaches working in Italy, so yes, it is a massive leap of faith from them and I'm very proud to be here."

Cole had previously spent time on the coaching staff at Chelsea, as academy coach, a first team coach under former teammate Frank Lampard at Everton, as first team coach to Wayne Rooney at Birmingham and as England U21s assistant coach.
