The UCLA football team kept rolling in the Big Ten Conference with a 28-10 win against Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at the Rose Bowl.
The No. 7 Bruins (7-0, 5-0 in Big Ten) rushed for a total of 245 yards on 46 carries, averaging 5.3 yards per rush, despite receiving a limited performance from superstar senior running back Wayne Knight due to injury.
"(Knight) got hit in the side, like his ribs, oblique, whatever you want to call it. Nothing in there that's overly dangerous. He wanted to go back in and probably could have, and we just didn't want to do it," Chesney explained. "I thought (Anthony) Woods was rolling today. To be able to see some of the holes that he found and be explosive and physical was really good. But both of those guys put the ball on the ground early. That's not where we were looking for, but I love their response.
"I think it's a brotherhood in that room, and it's not the easiest thing to do, but I think when you go through a physical game like we did the last two, and then again today, you find that you really need each other. As much as you might want to be the guy that carries the ball 40 times a game, it's not feasible to exist at this level in this league with that many carries, with that many hits that your body's got to take.
"So I think they respect each other and are absolutely each other's biggest fans and do such a good job of finding their way into what they do well and, again, just supporting each other. That's a room that is talented, physical, tough and works as hard as any other room out there, and it's cool to see them together working."
UCLA hosts Nevada (3-4) in non-conference action at 1:15 p.m. Saturday.
