Arsenal have been told Ethan Nwaneri is yet to have the desired impact at Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund this season.
Article continues under the videoEngland Under-21 international Nwaneri joined Dortmund on a season-long loan in September in order to earn regular first-team football.
However, the 19-year-old is still searching for his first goal or assist for the German outfit, with whom he has made seven appearances.
And therefore Sport1 reporter Manfred Sedlbauer believes Nwaneri has proven to be a disappointing signing for Dortmund so far.
He said: “Although Ethan Nwaneri frequently features in the starting eleven, he has not yet proven to be the immediate boost that was hoped for.”
Dortmund are winless in three games, losing to Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League while drawing with Werder Bremen and Union Berlin in the league.
Nwaneri featured in all three games, starting the matches against Werder and Union while he was a second-half substitute against Norwegian side Bodo/Glimt.
Nwaneri was accidentally shown a red card following a mistimed challenge on Union defender Tom Rothe on Saturday.
Referee Daniel Schalger quickly acknowledged his mistake, cancelling the red card and issuing Nwaneri a caution instead.
Nwaneri joined Arsenal’s youth system at the age of eight and played alongside Myles Lewis-Skelly in the academy setup.
He became the youngest player in Premier League history when he featured against Brentford in September 2022 - aged just 15 years and 181 days old.
Nwaneri has gone on to make a further 50 appearances for Arsenal, registering 10 goals and two assists for the north London club.
Struggling to earn regular first-team minutes at Arsenal last season, Nwaneri joined Ligue 1 side Marseille on loan for the remainder of 2025-26.
The opportunity work with manager Roberto De Zerbi was a key factor in his decision, but the Italian left just 19 days after the midfielder arrived in France.
Nwaneri will hope to make a telling contribution when Dortmund travel to Azerbaijani minnows Sabah in the Champions League today.
Parent club Arsenal, meanwhile, travel to Dortmund’s fierce rivals Bayern Munich in a mouth-watering European tie on Wednesday.
