Brewers catcher William Contreras wins World Series MVP

Milwaukee Brewers catcher William Contreras is the World Series MVP.

The Brewers veteran helped lead Milwaukee to the franchise’s first World Series championship via a dominant effort with his bat and a standout effort behind the plate.

In five World Series games, Contreras slashed .381/.435/.429 with 2 walks, 4 RBI , 2 runs scored and 1 stolen base.

Contreras was in control behind the plate throughout the series as Milwaukee’s pitching staff muted a hot-hitting Rays lineup, limiting Tampa Bay to 2.4 runs per game. He set the defensive tone in Milwaukee’s Game 1 win with two caught stealings to end Rays threats.

Contreras threw out Victor Mesa Jr. out at third base to end the top of the fifth with leadoff hitter Yandy Díaz at the plate. He then threw out Jonathan Aranda at second to end the top of the sixth to maintain Milwaukee’s 2-1 lead in a 3-2 Game 1 win.

The Brewers capped their historic season and a dominant postseason run Wednesday with with a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 5 to secure a 4-1 Series World Series win for the first championship in franchise history.

The Brewers led baseball with 103 wins, then beat the San Diego Padres in the National League Division Series to set up a rematch in the National League Championship Series with a reigning champion Los Angeles Dodgers team that swept them in last year’s NLCS.

The Brewers proceeded to dispatch the Dodgers with a four-game sweep and needed just five games to beat the American League Champion Rays. They lost just two playoff games en route to the their long-awaited title.

There was never any doubt this postseason about which team is the best in baseball, and the Brewers will return home to Milwaukee to celebrate with their fans with the franchise’s first championship parade.
