Nottingham Forest were held to a 1-1 draw by Ipswich Town at Portman Road as Oliver Glasner’s wait for another victory goes on.

Glasner saw his team defeat Aston Villa in mid-September, but since then the results have been pretty bleak, with the draw on Friday ending a run of three straight defeats.

Forest were once again on the wrong end of a shocking VAR call. Tom Bramall went with a yellow card after checking the screen with Keith Hackett, believing Issa Diop should have been sent off.

Nikola Milenkovic’s error gifted Ipswich a point against Forest and in the aftermath, Kelvin Wilson has been asked to pick his best three players and the defensive unit that he would go with if he were Oliver Glasner.

Kelvin Wilson defends Nikola Milenkovic

Wilson believes Milenkovic is still a top player in the Forest defensive unit and wouldn’t consider dropping him any time soon, despite this error of judgement against Ipswich.

Milenkovic did dust himself down pretty well at Portman Road. Ultimately, however, the error from the player did cost Forest two points and he will have to bounce back quickly in the coming games.

Wilson rates the Serbian defender highly, however, and thinks Glasner should think twice before dropping him from the team for the contest against Brentford.

He told the Forest Focus podcast: “Milenkovic, Cunha and Murillo – that would be my back three. Milenkovic made a mistake and listen it happens, it’s a bad one don’t get me wrong but they happen, he will feel embarrassed about it and be kicking himself. But no, that doesn’t change my opinion on him being the main player in that back three. You have to give them a run of games, if you keep changing it, it just doesn’t work.”

Wilson is probably right when it comes to assessing Milenkovic. You can count on one hand the number of mistakes he’s made in his time at Forest, and there is some credit in the bank.

The Serbian hasn’t scaled the heights that he did in the first season when Forest finished seventh and qualified for Europe, but he’s still a very good and accomplished defender on his day.

Forest fans will have to give Milenkovic a bit of time after his injury that he picked up earlier this season, but with a strong mindset, the international player should be capable of recovering and improving next time out.
