The Anthony Edwards and LaMelo Ball era in Minnesota could not have gotten off to a better start.
Anthony Edwards was the best player on the floor and knocked down nine 3-pointers on his way to 45 points, sparking a comfortable 131-106 win in Miami.

Just last year, Edwards dropped 41 on Portland in Minnesota’s season opener. Edwards has now joined elite company as only the third player in NBA history to have more than one 40+ point game on opening night, joining Michael Jordan (three) and Wilt Chamberlain (four).
This was also Giannis Antetokounmpo’s debut for Miami and he looked like vintage Greek Freak with 35 points on 13-of-19 shooting, plus pulling down six boards. Despite that, the Miami offense stalled out, scoring less than a point per possession, while the defense the Heat were banking on struggled to slow the Timberwolves guards.
LaMelo Ball had 21 points and six dimes for the Timberwolves, plus got away with an epic, egregious travel.
Count the steps…
