Elias Lindholm (5) won it in overtime. David Pastrnak (8), Casey Mittelstadt (5), Mason Lohrei (3), and Morgan Geekie (2) scored for the Bruins. Michael DiPietro made 38 saves in his third win of the season.

Will Borgen took a delay of game minor at the 5:53 mark, sending the Blackhawks’ power play to the ice. They only needed 11 seconds on the power play before Patrick Kane set up Anton Frondell to open the scoring. 

Nikita Zadorov laid a sizable hit on Connor Bedard, and the Bruins sent Casey Mittelstadt down the ice on a 3-on-1. Instead of firing a shot on Blackhawks goalie Arvid Soderblom, Mittelstadt turned and played a drop pass to James Hagens, much to the chagrin of the TD Garden crowd. 

However, the Bruins got on the board shortly after. From the defensive zone, Pavel Zacha backhanded a long, three-line pass to David Pastrnak. The Bruins captain beat Soderblom high on the breakaway and tied the game seven minutes after the Blackhawks took the lead.

The goal was Pastrnak’s 428th career goal, moving him to sole possession of third place on the Bruins’ all-time goals list.

Anton Frondell reclaimed the Blackhawks’ lead early in the second period. Old friend Tyler Bertuzzi steered a shot on goal, and Frondell connected with the puck and redirected it past DiPietro. 

The Bruins hit the post three times through the first 25 minutes of the game, with Morgan Geekie, Mark Kastelic, and Marat Khusnutdinov all ringing iron. 

The Bruins looked slow, and the Blackhawks were outshooting them 25-9 halfway through the game. However, on the Bruins’ 10th shot of the afternoon, Casey Mittelstadt beat Soderblom to tie the game. James Hagens played the puck to Mittelstadt, who connected from just outside the left circle. 

Mittelstadt laid a hit on Alex Vlasic in the offensive zone, and Vlasic was not a fan, to put it mildly. He cross-checked Mittelstadt before trailing him down the ice and eventually wrestling him down at the d-zone blue line. All hell broke loose. A 10-man scrum followed, with each Bruin paired with a Blackhawk. 

Nikita Zadorov took exception and got a few punches in on Vlasic. He was hit with a four-minute double minor and a 10-minute misconduct. Vlasic got four minutes for roughing. 

Ryan Greene broke the tie halfway through the third. As matching penalties to Tanner Jeannot (embellishment) and Connor Bedard (holding) ended, Greene moved in on a 3-on-1, elected to shoot, and beat DiPietro blocker side to give the Blackhawks a 3-2 lead.

Connor Bedard added to the Blackhawks’ lead less than three minutes later. He pulled the puck to his backhand on a breakaway and beat DiPietro blocker side.

It only took the Bruins 46 seconds to respond. JJ Peterka set up Mason Lohrei to the left of Soderblom’s net, and the 6-foot-5 defenseman buried his third goal of the season to make it a 4-3 game.

The Bruins pulled Michael DiPietro with 80 seconds remaining in regulation. It worked. Morgan Geekie scored his second goal of the season with 10.2 seconds to go and sent the game to overtime.

Elias Lindholm won it for the Bruins in overtime.

The Bruins will host the Vegas Golden Knights (9-5-1) on Monday night to close out their two-game homestand.
