Fiji have announced their squad for the Nations Championship, with a former England international included and potentially in line for his debut.

New head coach Jake White has named his squad for upcoming clashes against France, Ireland and Italy as he looks to usher in a new era.

The Flying Fijians endured a difficult summer, losing to Wales, England and Scotland.

Although having to play their supposed home fixtures in the UK put them at a disadvantage, the results were still disappointing.

However, they have now called upon the services of former England international Nathan Hughes.

Born in Fiji, the powerful back-row forward currently plays for Racing 92 in France's Top 14.

The 35-year-old is now in his second season with the French side and has made an impressive start to the campaign, scoring twice in his opening two appearances.

Hughes moved to New Zealand as a teenager, representing Auckland before joining Wasps in 2013.

His impressive Premiership displays earned him an England call-up, making his international debut against South Africa in November 2016.

He went on to win 22 caps for England between 2016 and 2019, with his final appearance coming against Scotland.

Following his departure from Wasps, Hughes joined Bristol Bears in 2019 before spending time on loan at Bath in 2022.

Able to operate at number eight, flanker or lock, he will now be hoping to make his international debut for Fiji.

His experience at the highest level could prove valuable as the Flying Fijians build towards the 2027 Rugby World Cup.

Fiji have been drawn alongside Argentina, Spain and Canada in Pool C.
