The long-awaited boxing fight between Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson has suffered another setback after both undefeated champions traded accusations over failed negotiations.

The dispute erupted on October 16, with Stevenson claiming Haney changed the agreed weight limit at the last minute, while Haney accused his rival of going silent and demanding a rehydration clause. The two fighters appeared close to finalizing a deal after agreeing to discuss a 145-pound catchweight for a potential December 2026 bout.

However, disagreements over the weight limit and contract terms have once again cast doubt on the highly anticipated boxing matchup. Neither fighter has announced a new date, leaving the proposed fight’s future uncertain.

Devin Haney and Shakur Stevenson Exchange Blame Over Boxing Fight

Stevenson took to social media on October 16 and accused Haney of changing his position after both camps had discussed a catchweight agreement.

“At the 11th hour, after agreeing to 144 and then 145, DeeHoe had his lawyer email and say that he would only fight at 147. Big waste of everybody’s time,” Stevenson wrote.

The Newark-born fighter recently moved from lightweight to super lightweight and has argued that a lower weight limit would help create a fair contest against Haney. He has also pushed for a rehydration clause to limit how much weight Haney could regain after the official weigh-in.

Haney responded on X, disputing Stevenson’s account of the negotiations.

“You’re cap.. I agreed to 145 u went missing for days. Tried to put a rehydration clause on me. I wasted 6 months negotiating with you.. i been negotiating with u since i was gonna sign to Zuffa. Yall did every thing for this fight not to happen even tried to throw Keyshawn in my way,” Haney wrote.

The WBO welterweight champion holds a 33-0 record with 15 knockouts. Haney has said he wants to compete at or near the 147-pound welterweight limit, with no weight-cut restrictions after the weigh-in.

Haney vs Stevenson Fight Appeared Close to a Deal

The latest dispute follows public exchanges that suggested the fight was nearing confirmation.

On October 8, Stevenson accepted Haney’s proposed 145-pound catchweight, writing, “145.0 U GOT A DEAL DEEHOE!!!!”

Haney had previously challenged Stevenson to agree to the same limit without a rehydration clause, writing, “Let’s do this 145 no rehydration clause @ShakurStevenson… let’s see who’s the real pu**y! December 2026.”

Haney’s father and trainer, Bill Haney, later indicated that November 28 in Atlanta was under consideration. He also said the camps had verbally aligned on a 145-pound limit without a rehydration clause.

Reports during the negotiations suggested that money was largely settled, leaving the weight limit and rehydration terms as the main obstacles. However, neither camp has announced a signed contract.

The fighters’ promotional arrangements also add complexity. Stevenson signed with Dana White’s Zuffa Boxing in 2026, while Haney has a multi-fight agreement with DAZN. A late-November or December date would require the sides to finalize their contracts in time for both fighters to prepare properly.

Why the Devin Haney vs Shakur Stevenson Fight Remains Uncertain

This isn’t the first time Haney and Stevenson have struggled to agree. Earlier discussions in 2026 also failed to produce a signed contract, despite Haney publicly considering a drop to 144 pounds to make the matchup happen.

Stevenson has argued that a catchweight would help address the fighters’ physical differences. He recently moved up from 135 pounds to 140 pounds, while Haney last competed in November 2025, when he defeated Brian Norman Jr. by decision to win the WBO welterweight title.

Haney’s proposed mandatory fight against Keyshawn Davis also collapsed earlier in the year after Davis withdrew over purse concerns.

Both fighters remain undefeated and have established themselves among boxing’s leading technical talents. Haney is a three-division world champion, while Stevenson has won titles across four divisions, including the WBO super lightweight championship after defeating Teofimo Lopez by unanimous decision in January 2026.

Despite the interest surrounding Haney vs. Stevenson, their repeated disagreements over weight, rehydration rules, and scheduling continue to delay the fight. As of October 16, no new date has been confirmed, and the latest public exchange has left the proposed matchup’s future uncertain.
