Bowl projections: Where Auburn is forecasted to play ahead of Week 9

Auburn football lost its most recent game, losing 38-17 to No. 13 LSU in Jordan-Hare Stadium. Despite the loss, Auburn remains in a position to earn its first bowl bid since 2023.

Auburn plays the final game of its brutal October schedule on Saturday at No. 12 Ole Miss. After its bout with the Rebels, Auburn closes out the regular season with three favorable games against Arkansas, Mississippi State, and Samford before facing No. 10 Alabama in Tuscaloosa.

An upset in Oxford is still possible, but if the Tigers win the three games in November in which they are favored, it will give them their highest win total since 2019, when Auburn won nine games. Experts across the country believe Auburn can reach the mark, according to their updated bowl projections.

Here is a look at Auburn football's latest bowl projections ahead of this weekend's college football action.

USA TODAY Sports: Birmingham Bowl

Erick Smith of USA TODAY Sports sticks with his Auburn vs. Memphis pick in the Birmingham Bowl for the third week in a row.

Memphis leads the all-time series over Auburn, 2-1. However, Auburn won the most recent meeting in the 2015 Birmingham Bowl, 31-10.

ESPN: Gasparilla Bowl, Birmingham Bowl

One ESPN expert keeps his pick for the second week in a row while another makes a small tweak.

ESPN's Kyle Bonagura projects Auburn to meet USF in the Gasparilla Bowl for the second week in a row, keeping alive the possibility that Alex Golesh, Byrum Brown, Keshaun Singleton, and so many others will travel back to Tampa to face their old team.

Mark Schlabach still believes Auburn will stay close to home and participate in the Birmingham Bowl, but has replaced NC State with Illinois in this week's update. NC State recently fired longtime head coach Dave Doering, and their postseason outlook is now foggy. Illinois is 4-3 entering this week's game at Maryland, and has three ranked teams remaining on its schedule: UCLA, Iowa, and Northwestern.

CBS Sports: Birmingham Bowl

After projecting Auburn to play in the Music City Bowl last week, Brad Crawford of CBS Sports has shifted Auburn's bowl location to Birmingham. Crawford projects Auburn to face Boston College in the JLabs Birmingham Bowl on Dec. 29. If this prediction comes true, it will be the first time since the 2014 BCS National Championship Game that Auburn has played an ACC team in a postseason game.

Athlon Sports: Birmingham Bowl

Auburn gets another Birmingham Bowl projection, this time from Athlon Sports. Last week, Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports broke the mold by predicting an Auburn-Cincinnati matchup in the Independence Bowl, but has shifted gears and now forecasts Auburn to face NC State in the Birmingham Bowl. NC State is 3-4, but has time to find new life after firing Dave Doeren. ESPN predicts the Wolfpack to win two of its final five games, including this weekend's game against California.

On3: Liberty Bowl

On3's Brett McMurphy pits Auburn against Houston in the Liberty Bowl in his latest projection.

Auburn has played in the Liberty Bowl twice: in 1965 against Archie Manning and Ole Miss, and again in 1984 against Arkansas. Auburn has also played Houston twice in a postseason game, most recently losing to the Cougars in the 2021 Birmingham Bowl.
