Rangers appear to be paying the price for failing to qualify for European competitions this season under Derek McInnes.
The Light Blues had a chance to make it to the Europa League via the qualifiers, but suffered elimination against Jagiellonia Bialystok over two legs, losing the away leg.
Rangers then suffered a penalty shootout defeat to Jablonec, which meant that they failed to qualify for the Conference League as well.

What changes should Derek McInnes make to the Rangers XI vs St Johnstone?

As Celtic and Hearts are still in the Europa League and Conference League, respectively, their revenue will be greater than Rangers’. However, what’s worrying is that Hibernian and Motherwell are making more from UEFA than the Ibrox outfit.
Both Hibs and Motherwell, who also got knocked out at the qualifying stage, pocketed £1.1m each from their European games this term. The Gers, shockingly, made less than them, making just £900k.
Clearly, nobody would have thought that at the start of the season and this creates a gulf between the Light Blues and Celtic and Hearts, who are playing in Europe. Being Scotland’s other European heavyweight for years, this is not something that the owners will look too kindly towards.
While club executives have confirmed that it will not alter transfer plans, it needs to be viewed as a one-off and not the sign of things to come. So far, things appear to be on the right track, but the likes of Fraser Thornton and Andrew Cavenagh need to ensure that there is a system built for success no matter who the manager is.
