Ipswich Town Women - David Wright reacts to Sunderland win

The Tractor Girls beat Sunderland 3-1 to maintain their strong start to life in WSL2, with Georgia Timms also celebrating her first goal for the club.

Town remain unbeaten and have climbed to second, but Wright was particularly pleased with how his players executed their game plan.

“Really pleasing,” he said. “I thought we had a real good level of control, even when the game was 11-a-side.

“We spoke about sliding the depth and using the power and pace. That's what we wanted to do.

“That's where we felt we could exploit them in terms of the depth in behind, especially the pace that we've got.”

Blustery weather made conditions difficult, but Wright felt his side dealt well with the problems it created.

“The wind's probably one of the worst conditions you can play in,” he said.

“It was difficult out there, especially quite blustery. In moments it could cause a bit of chaos, but I thought we controlled that chaos really well.”

It was also a memorable afternoon for Georgia Timms, who opened her Ipswich account after joining the club.

“It's amazing,” she said.

“A couple of games in, I had a couple of chances and not scored yet, and that's obviously been a big part of my game and what I wanted coming to the club.

“So getting the first goal was obviously amazing.”

Timms recalled wrestling with two Sunderland players before spotting the goalkeeper off her line and finding the bottom corner.

She believes Town's close-knit squad has helped them make such an impressive start.

“We've had a great start,” she said.

“All the girls are amazing, which I think is helping on and off the pitch.

“Wrighty's been amazing as well, keeping us going and keeping the levels high in training and in games, so I think you can see that on the pitch.”

Despite Town's league position, Wright is determined to keep his players focused on improving rather than looking too far ahead.

“I'm a very process-driven coach,” he said.

“The week doesn't change, win, lose or draw.

“Each day the girls come in and work their socks off. They want to get better individually, they want to get better collectively, and that's what we'll continue doing.”
