AC Milan survived a late scare against Atalanta to record their fourth Serie A win over the season, prevailing 3-2 at San Siro.
After an hour of the game, things could not have been better for Milan as Goncalo Ramos’ penalty, Adrien Rabiot’s strike and Mario Gila’s header had them three goals to the good against an Atalanta team that looked way off the pace.
However, there was a late fightback from the away side as Gianluca Gaetano and Nikola Krstovic each scored to make it a one-goal game for the final nine minutes plus stoppage time. In the end the Rossoneri hung on for an important win.
Below is how the newspapers in Italy look this morning, with the headlines dominated by the Diavolo’s win but also Juve’s resounding home defeat to Lazio.
La Gazzetta dello Sport: “A scary Milan. They dominate Atalanta, score three goals, then risk a draw. The Rossoneri – with Ramos, Rabiot, and Gila – are now in fourth place, with Maignan ultimately sealing the result. Amorim: ‘An outstanding hour’.”
Corriere dello Sport: “Milan flirt with disaster. From 3-0 up to 3-2 against Sarri’s side: a tense finish. Goals from Ramos, Rabiot, and Gila. Gonçalo misses a penalty. Gaetano and Krstovic bring the opposition back into the game. Maignan secures the win.”
Tuttosport: “A nail-biter for the Diavolo. Milan dominate early on, then nearly lets Atalanta back into it: 3–2, and they move into 4th place.
“A penalty from Gonçalo Ramos (the Portuguese forward also missed another one), plus goals from Rabiot and Gila: an hour of goals and entertainment. But strikes from Gaetano and Krstovic made for a finale of suffering.
“The Frenchman is blunt: ‘I’m angry; you can’t just collapse like that’. Amorim adds: ‘After it went to 3–1, the tension rose – that’s not good’. Sarri takes issue with the referee.”
QS: “Milan fired up: here are the stars. Amorim dominates, then suffers against La Dea. Now they’re in the Champions League places.”
