NFL seems to have a problem with Commanders RB Amik Robertson

Commanders CB Amik Robertson is playing at a high level, but NFL officials can't seem to leave him alone.

In each of the last two weeks, NFL officials have called a critical penalty on Washington Commanders cornerback Amik Robertson. Each time, the penalties had a significant impact on Washington’s momentum.

In Week 4, the Commanders faced the Indianapolis Colts in London. The Commanders were dominating the early stages of the game despite losing backup quarterback Marcus Mariota to a knee injury. Washington was down to its third-string quarterback, rookie Athan Kaliakmanis.

In the second quarter, it appeared that the Commanders just got off the field on a third-and-14. But wait, there’s a flag. Officials flagged Robertson for an altercation with Colts tight end Tyler Warren after the catch. The penalty kept Indianapolis’ drive alive, and they scored a few plays later, never looking back in a 30-13 win.

Here’s that flag, which he was also later fined for.

The announcers couldn’t believe Robertson was flagged for that. And he also landed a fine. Unbelievable. Amazingly, Washington was called for 10 penalties on that, while the Colts were flagged once for five yards.

In last week’s game against the Giants, Robertson was flagged twice; again, both were questionable. However, one would again significantly impact the game’s outcome. With the Commanders leading 19-6 in the fourth quarter, Robertson intercepted Giants quarterback Jameis Winston and returned it for 20+ yards.

Wait, there’s a flag. Officials called defensive pass interference on Robertson, giving New York a first down. The Giants would score a touchdown two plays later. Had the interception stood, it would’ve been difficult for the Giants to come back — which they eventually did before the teams tied.

The game announcers were again aghast after Robertson was called for a critical penalty. It was again questionable. Another instance where a questionable call changed the game’s trajectory.

No surprise, at least by the NFL’s standards, Robertson picked up yet another fine. Robinson was fined $12,537 for unnecessary roughness on an overtime play, even though he wasn’t penalized.

After last week’s game, Robertson took to social media to share his frustration with officiating. Because he didn’t do it in an official capacity in the locker room after the game, Robertson avoided a fine. Clearly, the NFL will find a way to get its money.

At this point, it’s fair to ask whether the NFL has a vendetta against Robertson. You can’t blame Robertson for being frustrated. Keep an eye on him during Monday’s Commanders-49ers game.
