Former Celtic striker Hyeon-gyu Oh scored twice in seven minutes as Beşiktaş recorded an impressive 3-2 Europa League victory over Hoffenheim.
The South Korean international produced the decisive contribution during a thrilling second half in Germany on Thursday night.
Oh first helped create Beşiktaş’s opening goal before scoring in the 72nd and 79th minutes to turn a 1-1 contest into a commanding 3-1 lead.
His opening strike completed a rapid counterattack, with the striker racing through before confidently beating the goalkeeper.
Oh then added his second from close range after Hoffenheim surrendered possession in another dangerous area.
Celtic should be paying close attention.
Beşiktaş visit Celtic Park on November 5 for the fourth match of the league phase, presenting Oh with an opportunity to face his former club.
The forward joined Celtic under Ange Postecoglou in January 2023 but struggled to establish himself as the club’s first-choice striker.
He nevertheless scored 12 goals across 47 appearances before moving to Genk in 2024.
Oh found greater consistency in Belgium, recording 22 goals in 73 matches and earning a move to Beşiktaş reportedly worth €14million.
His latest display offers another reminder of the ability he possesses when given regular opportunities.
It should also serve as a warning to a Celtic defence which looked worryingly vulnerable during Thursday’s 4-1 defeat against Benfica.
Martin O’Neill’s side were repeatedly exposed on the counterattack in Lisbon, while costly individual mistakes gave Benfica chances they did not need to work particularly hard to create.
Oh’s first goal against Hoffenheim demonstrated precisely how dangerous he can be when space opens in transition.
His second arrived after another turnover, with the striker reacting sharply inside the penalty area.
Those are situations Celtic must handle considerably better before Beşiktaş arrive in Glasgow.
The Hoops have already lost their opening two Europa League fixtures and face Celta Vigo before hosting the Turkish side.
Their margin for error is becoming increasingly narrow.
Allowing a confident striker such as Oh the same space afforded to Benfica could prove extremely costly.
