Of last season’s loan signings, Finley Munroe and Jamie Knight-Lebel were the ones to grab the headlines, but early on it was Ehibhatiomhan getting the plaudits.
Making his debut against Cardiff City in the Carabao Cup, the Southampton loanee was too hot to handle, and took his goal very well as Swindon looked to launch a comeback.
He netted shortly after against Reading in the Jersey Mike’s Trophy, and again at Barrow in League Two, as he looked to be a shrewd addition to Holloway’s rack ‘em and stack ‘em forward line.
But that was to be the final goal of his loan, as a spell out with haemorrhoids disrupted his progress, and he was never able to make the same impact before returning to Southampton in January.
A spell with Salford City in the second half of the season was also a struggle, and he has spent the first half of this season back in the Southampton under-21s.
Speaking to the Daily Echo, Ehibhatiomhan was asked what it was like working under Holloway in his first spell in senior football.
He said: "He's a character. He's got a lot of experience in the game, and he was a good person to work with. I really enjoyed it.
"It was difficult taking that step. It was good for my development. I think I learned a lot and matured a lot in the game as well. Overall, it definitely helped me."
Playing youth football again this season, Ehibhatiomhan has been a cut above, netting 11 goals in eight appearances for Adam Lallana’s side.
The 21-year-old revealed that a conversation with first-team manager Tonda Eckert had led to his decision to play academy football for the first half of this season.
He said: "I think me and Tonda have a good relationship. I worked with him in the Under-21s at the start of last season before I went out on loan.
"We just came to a decision that it was probably best for me to stay here and be in and around it and try to get into that team and put a thought into his head in these games. That's what I try to do every game.
"It's hard to ignore when you keep scoring. That's what I want to do - keep scoring, get opportunities in the first-team and show what I can do in the men's game."
