GRETNA 2008 hope to make club history on Saturday by reaching the third round of the Scottish Cup.

But it’ll be a tough ask for the Raydale outfit as they host Cumnock Juniors with a 3 pm kick off.

Vinnie Parker’s men reached the second round thanks to a brilliant 1-0 victory over Highland League outfit Nairn County.

In the build-up to this massive cup clash, club chairman and director of football Nikki White has called on all Anvils supporters to come out and back the team this weekend.

He said: “This Saturday we have a huge opportunity to make history as we welcome Cumnock Juniors to Raydale Park in the Scottish Cup Second Round.

“We’re looking to progress further in this competition than Gretna FC 2008 ever have before but we know Cumnock will be a strong side with a fantastic travelling support.

“So let’s make Raydale rock! We need as many of you as possible through the gates, getting behind the lads, creating an atmosphere and showing everyone what Gretna FC 2008 means to our community.

“The players will give everything on the pitch – now let’s give them everything from the stands. One club. One town. One massive opportunity. See you all at Raydale on Saturday.”

Manager Vinnie Parker added: “Both sides are desperate to reach the third round of the Scottish Cup and that usually makes for a fiercely competitive occasion.

“The memories from our trip to Nairn in the last round will stay with us for a long time – it was a brilliant day for everyone involved.

“Cumnock arrive on the back of a fairytale win, live on TV, against their rivals Auchinleck, so they’ll come into the match full of confidence.

“As we know at this level, every single week demands our very best if we’re to compete and give ourselves a chance of winning games.”
