Wales forced into squad change after injury to key player
Macs Page

Wales head coach Steve Tandy has been forced into a squad change ahead of the Nations Championship after an injury to Dragons winger Rio Dyer.

Uncapped Scarlets back Macs Page has been called up to the 39-man squad after initially missing out on selection for the November internationals.

Dyer suffered a hamstring injury during the URC clash against the Ospreys last Saturday and has now been released from the squad.

Page, 21, scored his fifth try of the season against the Stormers in Cape Town last weekend. However, his afternoon ended on a worrying note when he hit his head hard on the ground while attempting to score a sixth.

The young back required oxygen as he was helped from the field. He will now follow the return-to-play protocols before being considered for his first senior Wales cap.

Page can play on the wing or at outside centre. He was also part of Wales' touring squad to Japan in 2025, although he did not feature during the tour.

His initial omission from Tandy's squad had raised questions about his international future.

Reports had linked him with a move to Munster, while his alleged Irish qualification fuelled speculation that he could consider switching allegiance.

However, his late inclusion in the Wales squad appears to put those rumours to bed, with Tandy showing his desire to keep one of the country's promising young backs involved.

A Pembrokeshire native, Page spent part of his youth on the books of Swansea City before committing to a career in rugby union.

He has since earned a reputation for his pace, sharp footwork and attacking flair. Page also won the Scarlets' try of the season award for a spectacular score against Zebre during the 2024-25 campaign.

His inclusion gives Wales another option in the back three, alongside Scarlets team-mates Ellis Mee and Blair Murray, as well as Louis Rees-Zammit, Tom Rogers, Josh Adams and Gabriel Hamer-Webb.

Wales begin their November campaign against Japan in Cardiff on Saturday, 7 November, before hosting New Zealand and Australia.

Tandy's side will then face another southern hemisphere opponent during the Nations Championship finals weekend at Allianz Stadium, Twickenham, at the end of the month.
