Dallas Goedert expects to play against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, a welcome development for the Eagles as injuries continue to affect their receiving corps. Goedert said Saturday that he tweaked an existing knee injury but expects to be available, according to The Philadelphia Inquirer’s Jeff McLane. The veteran tight end returned to practice Saturday after being listed as a nonparticipant Thursday and Friday.
His assessment offers optimism for an offense that remained without wide receivers DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks during the portion of Saturday’s practice open to reporters. Smith is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Wicks has an ankle injury.
Goedert has caught 17 passes for 180 yards and two touchdowns in four games this season. He caught six passes for 61 yards in last week’s 25-14 loss to Carolina, giving Tanner McKee an important option in his first start of the season.
Having Goedert available would help Philadelphia keep an experienced target in the middle of the field, especially if its wide receiver injuries carry into Monday’s game. His ability to contribute as a receiver and blocker also gives offensive coordinator Sean Mannion more personnel flexibility.
Goedert’s expectation is separate from the team’s official game designation, and his return to practice does not guarantee an unrestricted workload. The Eagles enter Monday’s divisional matchup at 2-4, seeking to end a four-game losing streak against a Cowboys team with the same record.
