Tadley Calleva produced a heroic display on Saturday, holding National League Aldershot to a 2-2 draw to keep their FA Cup dream alive.
Backed by a magnificent contingent of 883 away supporters who sang from the first whistle to the last, the visitors showed incredible energy right from the get-go in the Fourth Qualifying Round match.
However, it was the hosts who drew first blood after weathering early pressure at the EBB Stadium.
Following three successive corners, striker Marcus Dinanga found space to bundle home a close-range tap-in on the seven minute mark.
Tadley refused to drop their heads.
Kieran Rodgers proved a constant thorn in the side of the Shots defence, winning a corner in the 14th minute before trying his luck from 25 yards out midway through the half, his ambitious effort narrowly clearing the crossbar and drawing a nervous glance from the home goalkeeper.
At the other end, resolute defending – spearheaded by a vital block from centre-back Brad Neal to deny Dinanga a second – kept the deficit to a single goal.
As Tadley’s Alexander Lawrence John Miller went into the referee's book in the 30th minute, both sides battled hard in a physical first period, with both flanks proving dangerous.
Tadley introduced Josh Ewing for Brad Passfield on 45 minutes, and just as the half seemed destined to close with the hosts ahead, absolute scenes erupted in the away end on the stroke of half-time.
Logan Lowes launched a trademark long throw into the box, and Alfie Burton was the quickest to deftly flick the ball home.
Cue wild celebrations as Burton launched into a knee-slide towards the ecstatic visiting supporters, briefly silencing the National League crowd and capping off a dream end to the half.
The second period followed a similar pattern of fierce resilience from the step-five underdogs.
Tadley threatened early in the half, but soon found themselves under heavy pressure, with Ewing also picking up a caution.
Goalkeeper Donnacha Burke and his backline stood firm, capped by a breath-taking sequence of three successive blocks on 54 minutes to frustrate the Aldershot attack.
Aldershot eventually restored their lead on 58 minutes when Stickland converted from a corner – a set-piece that unfortunately followed Tadley defender Nathan Smart’s exit after picking up an injury, replaced by Scott Costello.
The visitors continued to weather the storm, surviving a close shave on 61 minutes when Burke was caught out of position, before creating their own grandstand finish with the introductions of Lors Nicholas and Charlie Barlow.
The reward arrived in the 72nd minute.
After a frantic goalmouth scramble where multiple efforts were blocked or bundled away, the ball spilled kindly to substitute Barlow.
He made no mistake, firing low and hard to send the travelling stands into raptures once more.
The drama intensified deep into stoppage time.
Aldershot rattled the crossbar with a close-range header on 81 minutes before seeing an 89th-minute ‘winner’ dramatically chalked off by the linesman's raised flag.
Following an extended 11 minutes of added time, Burke produced a worldie save to deny a dangerous delivery, and a late 45-yard speculative effort from Tadley nearly caught the host keeper out before sailing just over.
When the final whistle blew, it confirmed a memorable 2-2 stalemate.
Tadley Calleva's fairytale cup run now heads back to Barlow's Park for a blockbuster replay on Tuesday evening at 7:45pm, where the Romans will look to finish the job on home turf.
