Amad Diallo’s Manchester United career has been anything but straightforward, with the Ivorian winger experiencing moments of brilliance alongside frustrating setbacks.
United signed him from Atalanta in January 2021 in a deal potentially worth around £37 million, placing enormous expectations on a teenager with limited senior experience.
Loan spells at Rangers and Sunderland followed, with his performances in the Championship eventually helping him establish himself at Old Trafford.
Under Ruben Amorim, Amad became an important attacking outlet, even impressing in the unfamiliar right wing-back position.
However, his progress has not always translated into consistent numbers.
Last season, he registered just two goals and three assists in 33 appearances, despite United finishing third in the Premier League.
His talent was undeniable at the 2026 World Cup, though, where he scored twice for Ivory Coast, including a dramatic winner against Ecuador.
Many supporters consider Amad United’s most naturally gifted out-and-out winger, although Bryan Mbeumo has offered greater attacking productivity.
His future even attracted speculation during the summer, when Aston Villa were reportedly interested in signing him. Nothing materialised.
An injury then delayed his season, with the winger missing United’s opening fixtures before returning against Tottenham Hotspur.
He subsequently appeared from the bench against Atletico Madrid before completing 90 minutes in Sunday’s disappointing 1-1 draw with Leeds United.
However, another development involving Amad has now emerged amid uncertainty surrounding a separate agreement.
Amad appeared to wear Nike Mercurial football boots during Manchester United’s draw against Leeds, having previously worn Adidas footwear on a regular basis.
The boots resemble Nike’s Mercurial Superfly range, although the exact model remains unconfirmed.
Back in August, Footy Headlines reported that Amad had been spotted wearing blacked-out Adidas X Speedportal boots during pre-season.
The website suggested this could indicate that his Adidas agreement had expired, although no official confirmation was provided.
His apparent switch to Nike is therefore particularly interesting, potentially signalling a change in boot supplier.
However, wearing another manufacturer’s boots does not itself confirm a sponsorship agreement.
Neither Amad nor Nike has publicly confirmed a new deal, meaning the precise contractual situation remains unclear.
